Wednesday Devotional: What does it mean to have a relationship with God” -Nick Hildebrandt

What does it mean to have a relationship? And what does it mean to have a relationship with God.

One comedian’s quote (Tim Bedore) about people from the Midwest is “where the introverts stare at their feet and the extroverts stare at yours”. In these times of self-isolation, you may be comfortable tucked away in your own home or you might be going crazy not having much contact with friends and family. In Philippians 2, we are told to imitate Christ’s Humility and value others above our self. That is hard to do when you are worried so much about contracting this virus. But Paul says ‘In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:’ (2:5)

Figure out a way to continue your relationships with one another. Drive by and honk, zoom, call, text, write letters. Think about the people that you love and love them more than yourself. Be a servant to them.

Your relationship with God can be like this. Your desire to know him is the same desire that Jesus had to be with Him, but ‘rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross!’(Philippians 2:7-8). He did this because He loves you so much more than we can even imagine.

Pray this: ‘I want to have a relationship with a God who loves me this much!’

Here is a short video that touches on what it looks like to have a relationship with God:

God Bless you!
